    LAME

$2,499 standard price of Mac Pro ($2,299 for Education)

$2,124 is the lowest you can configure the Mac Pro ($1,962 for Education)

To get it that low, you have to drop the processors from 2.66GHz to 2GHz and and the hard drive from 250GB to 160GB

Airport Extreme & Bluetooth 2.0 still not standard

Weak graphics card standard (GeForce 7300, ugh)

    and as a sidenote:

MacBook Pro & MacBook processors untouched

     iMac untouched

iPod product line grows more stale by the day

    ITS A DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE !!!!!!!!!! NOT A GIVE-THE-WHINY-CONSUMERS-EVERYTHING-THEY-WANT-MACWORLD-CONFERENCE!!!!!!!!

    Give it a rest!!!!

Do you really need a new #%&$*%^& iPod?...

Do you wnat a CPU update in your laptop weekly?...

    sheesh!!!!

go buy a Dell and enjoy!!!!

Apple has changed their site now to say it would ship in 1-2 months.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy now. It's clear whatever lead they had in time with the Magellan kit is now lost. It seems we'll get to compare them and then decide.

Is that why you bought the iPad? One would think if you have an iPad, you'd already see the error in judgement that you made there. Just because Apple stuff looks cool doesn't mean it's sacrificing function - to the contrary.

If you've used an iPhone, or iPad, for any period of time you'd know that.

Other computer makers put wavy lines, green blinking lights and all sorts of other kitsch on their machines - by kitsch I mean design features that have no function, that are there only to look "good".

When has Apple made a device that didn't work very well??? You'd have to go all the way to the Newton for that. And that happened while Steve Jobs was away, not a co-incidence. Ever since the iPod, it's been hit after hit.

Well, I think the previous commenter's point has some validity. A great example of this "form over function" is the iMac. Mobile graphics (and poor ones at that), horrendous thermal management, limited stand orientation...but one damn fine looking computer:D Dont get me wrong, Apple does amazing things with their products. (Im obviously a fan :D) But I do think design is paramount to their efforts (not that function ever takes backseat, it just can be slightly lessoned on some releases). Now, IMO...they knocked both form and function out of the park with the iPad 2, iPhone 4, and 2010 MBA. Bravo

    Android has two clubs

Non iPhone market: free phones and $50 dollar phones
iPhone competitors: $200 phones: HTC Evo, Droid Incredible, etc..

I'd like to see a breakdown of Android by these metrics.

Take all the MetroPCS and Free junk out of the stats and lets see whose premium offerings are reigning supreme.

We can take out the 3GS to make everything "equal".

Android is still open... They are just going to be much more tighter on what Products qualify to get the google Logo and the android name.

much more tighter? Seriously? Can't you take the time to get a sentence correctly formed?

Either it's much tighter or much more tight, not much more tighter. And no, for all the Jailbreak folks, Jailbreak legally does not extend to corporate relationships.

Wait a second...if they release it in Paris, won't it no longer qualify for the free ipod?!? :(

    BINGO! :D

Well, due to my disappointment that they didn't release it at WWDC, I can't stand the waiting anymore so I've decided to go into suspended animation until they release the MBP in the next few weeks. Somebody make sure to wake me when its time to open up my wallet!

So what would you call 500ml of beer at a bar?

Somehow I don't see that becoming popular pub lingo...

Growing up in a metric country (French speaking Switzerland) it was a canette, and Wikipedia reveals a veritable plethora of other colloquial terms in French depending on your location.

    http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verre__bire

Including: Demi, Pinte, Distingu, Vritable, Baron, Mini-chevalier, Chope, Srieux, Canette, ... (the bold one should look somewhat familiar ;) )

It's just like I said earlier about the pound. In everyday use there's not much difference between a 454 g pound and a 500 g "pound".

You are entirely correct. There is really nothing that will make the daily life of an American citizen better 'cause their can of Bud is 331ml, or their corn-beef sandwich has 125gs of beef, and 12ml of mustard on two slices of rye, each 115mm thick.

Quite frankly I really don't understand why this attitude is necessary. Have I been rude or condescending towards you in this discussion? Has anyone else in this thread?

I think the most insulting part is that you couldn't even make a coherent point with this sarcasm. Are you trying to poke fun at random numbers in the imperial system? Arbitrary values in general? Americans who eat roast beef?

But don't go around telling the world what a "modern" society you are when you are still stuck measuring things with this quaint system that the rest of the world has modernized away from. it's really kinda cute, you know. :D

Oh you mean how you still have a queen as your sovereign? Or how you mandate bilingual education for a stark minority of French Canadians? Or how the United Kingdom still has an unwritten constitution? Or how half of Europe still has an official state church? Or how the French presume guilt rather than innocence? Or how Italy is still run by political machines?

Modernity is always a hindsight judgment. What should matter is if the system is not working for the people who use it. With private industries transitioning manufacturing to metric, the biggest argument in favor of the metric system is moot. The question then comes down to whether or not you are better positioned to judge what other people need or want.

There is no reason to put anti-virus software on your Mac!

It will not protect you from anything that is out there.

Sophos may be a reputable company or it may not be but you do not need this and it can only harm your system and promote a business that feeds on fear.

We (the Mac community) should not let the security industry get a toe hold in OSX.

Have you looked at the TouchWiz UI? It's almost identical to iOS - dock at the bottom, pages of icons in a grid and you even remove applications in the same way as you do on the iPhone. I've nothing at all against competition for iOS, but they shouldn't just rip the design off

well, i know there was some marginal increase in processing speed but i'm talking about actually running 64bit programs. i thought you need alot more horsepower to run 64bit programs than whats currently offered... maybe i was just tired and totally misread an article a couple of weeks ago.

Actually, no. Remember, 64-bit is only new to the consumer stuff. I've been running 64-bit UNIX applications for over 8 years. 64-bit UNIX has been around even longer than that. It's not a matter of "horsepower" (by today's standards, a 167MHz UltraSPARC I is kinda slow...), but of the usefulness of a 64-bit address space, not only for real memory, but for virtual. As well as higher precision, etc. (Assuming the CPU is true 64-bit and not limited by a smaller external address bus.)

Hmmm... There's actually a good entry on it in Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit

That might help you some more.

You would think that on the surface. People asked, if Apple wants to kill Flash, why doesn't Adobe just kill, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Dreamwever, Premiere and InDesign on the Mac, that would cripple Apple as a creative platform for designers, well, Adobe does not want to kill more than 50% of its revenue stream.....the answer is money! Samsung loves the profitability of making Apples stuff! They do not want to lose that golden goose.

You see I'd love Adobe to get Apple worried like this :)

All Adobe would have to do it put out a public press release that they are reconsidering their support of the Apple platform in the future, and if they wish to continue selling Mac versions of their software.

Just them saying they are considering their position would send shock waves through Apple.

It's only a matter of time. Apple are going to pee too many people off sooner or later and they will start to bite back hard.

If they do a revision, then its safe to say we won't see another update till santa rosa chipsets ship next spring alongside leopard. Which means "next month" is a good time to buy a MBP at least for a while.

This also suggest new ipods this fall (for christmas), conroe iMacs at the paris expo, iPhone as well as iLife/iWork updates and maybe Leopard shipping at MWSF....we all know steve likes beating deadlines meaning Leopard would definately ship before spring, unless he really wants vista out first before showing his cards to avoid photocopying.

Since Apple is now doing more form factor differentiation than chip differentiation, they should come out with a tablet product line (3 sizes) and see where it goes. They will likely sell more copies than 17 inch MacBookPros so it should be economical.

By simply offering the product line, they wil get user feedback and increased capability versions year after year.

The Windows equivalent devices seem to start from scratch every year.

It exists. There's no reason for it to exist. You can't disable it. And there are HUGE privacy implications should the file be accessed without your permission - by thieves, stalkers (or worse), advertisers, police, etc. - none of whom can access your cell company's location records, except authorities, and even then only by subpoena. Which means a judge has to agree that there's a good reason for them to need it.

Why is the file even there in the first place?

How can you say there is no reason for it to exist? Did you design iOS? Were you part of the team who designed CoreLocation? Of course it has a reason to exist. It exists as a cache of cell tower information to provide rough location info with minimal battery usage. See here for more details: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12432603&postcount=16

Right, and boy is there misinformation being spread right in this thread. Apple is NOT collecting this data, your iPhone is. It goes NOWHERE.

As I said, it isn't even doing that for me as I deleted that file on my Mac. Hey, instead of running around with your hair on fire, just delete that file. Wow, that's easy!

Naah, better to pretend this is one big conspiracy from Apple and spread misinformation. Hey, I know, let me contradict Steve's explicit statements. I sure know who I trust more: anonymous snipers on the Internet over Steve Jobs.

I have no issue with this file but deleting the file from your Mac won't really solve anything. The file still exists on the iPhone, and even if you jailbroke it and found a way to delete it off the phone, the phone would just generate a fresh consolidated.db file soon after. Then, when you sync the iPhone with your Mac it gets copied back across again.

Nothing to see here...just the unabashed evilness of Apple shining through. I'm sure Apple will 'flash the wad' to the right people and make this issue go away...sad :( We are nothing more than chattel to Apple Consumer Electronics, where we are tracked and monitored like open range livestock. This is how they view us, as THEIR herd to do with as they please.

Welcome to the future guys.
